Thursday, September 27

Under the 'Documents' section to the right, you will find a doc called "Series and Parallel Circuit Basics". Click on it, and it will lead you to a document you can print out.
It has step by step instructions on how to access the website we used in class today. You can also find the link under 'Helpful Links' - its the Circuit Construction Kit.
The document guides you through building several circuits and answering questions. Complete ALL parts for class on Tuesday.

Tuesday and Wednesday, September 25th and 26th

For homework tonight:
Do all of the following-
1) Read and respond to the 'What Do You Think?' section on page 606.
2) Add the words 'coulomb' and 'joule' to your vocabulary list and define them.
3) Read through the Investigate A #1-9; this is essentially the electron shuffle we did in class. Record the answers and observations asked of you in numbers 6 and 9 in your notebook.

For tomorrow in class:
Make sure you bring your textbook and notebook to class, you will need both!

Monday, September 24

Complete questions 1-9 on page 604 of your textbook.

Friday, September 21

1) Use the instructions sheet handed out in class to create a Quia account

2) Read the 'Scenario' and 'Your Challenge' sections on pages 594 and 595 of your textbook. While reading, compile a list of all the electricity vocab words you don't know. Then, add them to the list we started in class and define them (you may use reputable sources on the internet, dictionaries, or your textbook to do this).

Wednesday, September 19

Below you will find a link to your homework. It will first bring you to a page that asks for your name. Even though, it says it's optional to put your name, please do it anyway so I can see how you did answering the questions.
Once you hit the 'start now' button, you will be brought to a page with 12 questions. Answer them all to the best of your ability and then hit 'submit answers' at the bottom of the page.
Don't worry about your grade, we will go over the questions in class.

As we discussed in class, complete or fix your "Physics Talk" outline. Also, you still need to answer questions 1 and 2 on page 601, if you have not already.

Please make sure you are on-time for class on Monday. You must have your textbook and notebook with you. You will get all other instructions from the proctor, so please make sure you're being attentive to them. Remember that you will be doing quiet work on Monday.

Thursday, September 13

Read the 'Physics Talk' on pages 600-601 in your textbook. Write an outline of the talk in your notebook. Then, answer questions 1 & 2 under the heading "Checking Up" on page 601.

  • Read over 'Investigate B' in your textbook so you are familiar with it for class on Thursday.
  • Complete your Student Profile

Complete 'Investigate A' questions 1 and 2 (all parts) in your notebook. The questions can be found on pages 598 and 599 of your textbook. Don't forget a proper heading!

Welcome to Physics!

This website is going to be an important part of our class this year. You should check it EVERYDAY (In fact, bookmark it right now). Here you will be able to find homework assignments, study tools, class notes, important links and more.

Your first assignment has three parts:

1) Buy a quad-ruled composition notebook (like the one I showed you in class).
2) In this notebook, answer the "What do you think?" questions on page 598 in your Active Physics Textbook (REMEMBER TO SKIP THE FIRST 6 PAGES!). Be sure to use the heading I showed you in class.
3) Also in your notebook, make an inventory of all the appliances in your house that run on electricity and are not battery powered.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at tanzmanj@xavierhs.org

I look forward to a fun, productive and dynamic year with all of you!
